The Sisterhood Projects, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Lithonia, GA and serves teenage mothers ages 13-19 in the DeKalb County, GA and Fulton County, GA areas through its Sisterhood Teens Parenting Series. The organization was founded in 2014 by Dr. Beverly Harris-Coleman to provide needed assistance, resources and referrals to teenage mothers, and to break the cycle of teen pregnancy which is predominately found among in low-income at-risk youth. In collaboration with their agency partners, the organization provides pregnant teenagers life skills courses, educational tutoring and employment/workforce development training, and referrals for medical, mental health, and shelter. Our goals are to provide wrap around intervention leading to the prevention of teen pregnancy, as well as resources, training and support for teens that have already become new moms.
Since our inception, The Sisterhood Projects, Inc. has enjoyed many accomplishments. We have established partnerships with great agencies and organizations like Wheat Street Baptist Church, DeVry University, DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce, DeKalb County School System, Exchange Park in DeKalb County, just to name a few. In fact, we have secured the Exchange Park as a permanent space to host our teen parent classes and meetings. We have also garnered many speaking engagements in order to share our organization’s mission of supporting teenage mothers and breaking the cycle of teen pregnancy in our community. In addition, our Board has leveraged their wing-span within the county schools to provide students and families with teen-pregnancy information, resources and referrals; and, as a result we have positively impacted more than 300 at-risk teens.
The Sisterhood Projects, Inc. is governed by an active Board of Directors, made up of Six (6) dedicated individuals who provide oversight for the organization’s activities. They are ultimately responsible for developing and maintaining the charity’s overall strategic plan, overseeing its financial management and ensuring that its activities and program perfectly align with its goals, strategy and mission.
