Mission

Service For Peace (SFP) involves volunteers in ongoing community development programs in the Republica Dominicana (RD). Our programs are designed to promote the growth and development of individuals in our communities through the shared experience of volunteer service.

Programs

Servicio Para La Paz (SPP) is currently working in partnership with the beautiful community of La Rosa in the RD. La Rosa was chosen based on its desire to become self-sustainable in order to address their own development issues from within the community. We adopt an approach that is often referred to as Community Driven Development (CDD). It is very different from the viewpoint that people within resource challenged communities lack the work ethic or skills needed to rise out of poverty. The CDD approach turns this perception on its head and treats communities and their institutions as assets and partners in the search for solutions to their development challenges.

 SPP believes that effective community development has to be driven by the local communities. In support of our ongoing community driven programs by local community development councils, we coordinate groups of volunteers for safe, meaningful, affordable and fun international service opportunities. Service For Peace uses a unique approach to intercultural community development in which we also prioritize the rich and genuine experience of volunteers with the sustainable and collaborative development of our long-term partner communities in which we work.

A continuous commitment to each community by our local staff, combined with the participation of international volunteers, creates momentum within the community and a strong sense of optimism about the possibility of achieving real and sustainable improvements. These results have been seen in communities such as El C idral and La Represa in which this new approach has been implemented, resulting in more empowered communities, united and capable of solving their development challenges by themselves.
