Second Chances Wildlife Center

A nonprofit organization

Our Mission:

To inspire compassion, conservation, and environmental responsibility through hands-on education and dedicated wildlife rehabilitation.

HOW WE CARRY IT OUT

  1. Rescue & Rehabilitation – We provide expert care to orphaned, injured, or displaced native wildlife with the goal of returning them to the wild. For those that cannot survive on their own, we offer a safe, lifelong sanctuary.

  2. Education with Heart – Our programs go beyond facts and figures. We aim to spark wonder, compassion, and a lifelong love for nature while encouraging sustainable choices for a healthier planet.

WHY WE MATTER

Without trained and licensed rehabilitators, well-meaning individuals might attempt to care for wild animals themselves, often putting both people and wildlife in danger. Rehabilitation requires specialized knowledge, and it’s important to know that it’s illegal to possess wildlife without proper permits. Each year, over 1,500 people turn to us for help and advice. We’re here to provide safe, humane solutions, to reduce human-wildlife conflicts, and to serve as an early warning system for potential disease outbreaks.

MAJOR MILESTONE

This year, we proudly completed Kentucky’s first and only dedicated bat rehabilitation facility. This specialized space includes an indoor flight cage and a quarantine room designed to give bats the best chance at recovery. It will allow us to care for more injured and endangered species than ever before, strengthening our impact on conservation and helping protect these vital yet vulnerable animals.

THE IMPACT OF YOUR GIFT

Second Chances Wildlife Center holds state and federal licenses, but receives no government funding. We rely on the generosity of our community. Your donations directly support animal care, and every gift is tax-deductible.

WHY WILDLIFE NEED US

Most of the animals that come into our care are not here because of nature, but because of human impact. Habitat loss, cars, pesticides, glue traps, outdoor pets, lawn equipment, and even cruelty are just some of the dangers wildlife face every day. We believe it’s our shared responsibility to help them survive and learn how to coexist with compassion and respect.

WHO WE ARE TODAY

With 16 years of experience, Second Chances Wildlife Center has become a trusted leader in wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education. From classrooms to libraries to partnerships with other nonprofits, we connect people with wildlife in meaningful ways that spark curiosity and care. Research shows that environmental education improves both academic outcomes and character development, and we’re proud to be part of shaping the next generation of compassionate conservationists.
