Mission:

To foster compassion, conservation, and environmental stewardship through education and wildlife rehabilitation.

We accomplish this mission in two ways:

1) Environmental Education programs which not only teach facts, but foster compassion and excitement for nature and environmental sustainability.

2) Rescue, rehabilitation, and safe release of orphaned, injured, or displaced native wildlife. For those animals that have injuries or ailments that would prevent them from surviving on their own, we provide them lifetime sanctuary.

Why are we important?

Without a licensed rehabilitator, well intentioned people would attempt to care for orphaned or injured wildlife putting both themselves and the animals at risk. Extensive training is necessary to acquire the knowledge to care for injured and orphaned wildlife and it is important to note that it is illegal for anyone without a license to possess wildlife.

We reduce, resolve and prevent human-wildlife conflicts. Over 1500 people call us each year requesting advice. We provide safe and humane solutions. In addition, we provide early detection of wildlife disease outbreaks.

What does your donation do?

Second Chances Wildlife Center, while being licensed through the State and Federal government, receives NO city, state or federal funding. We rely mostly on in-kind contributions and donations from the community. All donations go directly back to animal care and are tax deductible.

Why should we help wildlife?

Rarely do animals come to us due to natural causes. They need our help because they have a difficult time adapting and surviving due to ever increasing human encroachment on their habitats. Wild animals are forced to come into closer proximity to humans, being exposed to more dangers like: cars, pesticides, dogs & outdoor cats, glue traps, lawn mowers, chain saws, abuse and ignorance. It is our responsibility to help them and to coexist humanely and respectively.

Second Chances Wildlife Center has 14 years of experience rescuing wildlife and spreading environmental stewardship in our community. Our wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education programs provide those we serve with engaging opportunities to connect with and develop an affinity for the natural world. Through in-school classes, library visits, and partnerships with other nonprofits, we bring people face-to-face with wildlife they may otherwise never experience. Research demonstrates the positive impact of environmental education on student outcomes, and Second Chances takes pride in delivering programs that help students in both educational and character development.
