Second Chance Animal Services is a nonprofit animal welfare organization founded in 1999.  Second Chance began as an animal shelter and grew to help more pets in need.  Today SCAS operates four Community Veterinary Hospitals in North Brookfield, Southbridge, Springfield, and Worcester providing access to the highest-quality veterinary care for all.  Subsidized rates are provided to underserved communities to ensure access to care for all pets in need. Second Chance helps over 49,000 pets a year through full-service veterinary care, spay/neuter services, adoption services, community & educational outreach programs, training, and a pet food pantry.

We focus on keeping pets out of shelters in the first place. We save lives through our community outreach programs that provide vaccine clinics, veterinary care - including subsidized rates for qualified households, a pet food pantry distributing to local food pantries, educational programs in the schools, and so much more.  We want to be sure that every pet that needs help can get the help they need through our programs. We go beyond those pets that come into our doors by going out into the community to help those pets that can't get to us.

OUR MISSION

TO provide temporary shelter to stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals for the purpose of finding permanent suitable new homes.

TO provide assistance and financial aid to prevent overpopulation through spaying and neutering programs.

TO support a healthy pet community and responsible animal husbandry by providing reasonably cost general veterinary services, as well as low/no cost general veterinary services to those unable to afford care for their pets.

TO provide low/no cost general veterinary services to animal control agencies, animal shelters and rescues.

TO establish cross-referral networks with local “for profit” veterinary doctors and clinics.

TO provide assistance and information to others whose purposes are consistent with the purpose of Second Chance Animal Shelter, Inc.

OUR VISION:

Second Chance will be a model shelter, addressing the issue of pet over-population by providing solutions through services and prevention through education. We will be the exemplary shelter for Central Massachusetts by executing exceptional business and service practices and providing a revolutionary model for the pet and shelter industry.
