Our History

Raising Shasta, formerly Pathways to Hope serves as an umbrella for a wide range of projects throughout Shasta County that offer community outreach, youth development, family support, and child abuse prevention education and awareness activities.

The history of Raising Shasta dates back to November 1987, when the Legislature mandated the creation of an entity whose sole purpose is to target the prevention and early intervention of abusive behaviors toward children and plays an active role in responding to the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. Our organization was founded as the Shasta County Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council. In 2024, Raising Shasta Merged with Catalyst Mentoring. Allowing us to offer an expanded range of services, including mentorship programs, educational support, life skills training, and enhanced community outreach.

It is through our mission and vision that we can truly begin to prevent child abuse and neglect. Raising Shasta’s Board of Directors has identified five strategies to help reach our vision and mission.

  • Coordinate public and private child abuse prevention efforts in Shasta County.
  • Enhance the range of opportunities offered to strengthen communities and families.
  • Provide public information, education, and professional development regarding child abuse and neglect and their prevention.
  • Advocate for the improvement and expansion of quality services related to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect.
  • Collaborate with other Child Abuse and Prevention organizations on the local, regional, and state level, to achieve mutually determined objectives.

Our Vision: We envision a community where every child is valued, nurtured, and safeguarded, reaching their full potential through collective and compassionate community action.

Our Mission: At Raising Shasta, we are committed to fostering a local culture that cherishes and supports all children and families, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
