People’s Justice Project (PJP), a fiscally-sponsored project of the Peace Development Fund (PDF),  was established by a group of Columbus-based organizers in the summer of 2015, after the emergence of the #BlackLivesMatter movement in August 2014. PJP’s mission is to build the power of Black and Brown people disproportionately affected by state violence, mass criminalization, and incarceration by centering community organizing and leadership development.  Our founders were all part of communities deeply impacted by state violence, and all of them have personal stories about their relationship with state violence. At that time, the community identified an urgent need to hold police officers accountable.
