“The Big Yellow Church!” exclaim children when they are asked about the Gateway Regional Arts Center.  The yellow building is their beacon for the arts in our small rural community that lies between the Bluegrass and the Appalachian Mountains.

The Gateway Regional Arts Center has become a beacon for many – a place where anyone of any age can come and expect to experience quality arts projects and programs.

This former church, renovated by the Montgomery County Council for the Arts, is home to a multitude of arts experiences that include yearly:

FOR CHILDREN:

- Noteables Community Youth Chorus

- Camps:  Summer Playhouse & Summer Stock Theatre Camps, Art Camps, Choral Camps, Regional Student Art Show, Missoula Children’s Theater, University of KY Opera performances in the schools

- Montgomery Co. Student Orchestra Recital

- Scholarships are available for all programs,

- Mini grants are available to teachers in the schools

 

LITERARY:

- KY Authors Series, book signing, Chautauqua events, author visits to schools and community

 

MUSIC:

- The Advent Musicale - 35 local & regional voices, members of the Lexington Philharmonic and Conductor Dr. George Zack just presented our 28 year of this program of classical music.

- Sterling Singers adult community chorus

- Summer Drum Circles

- Multiple performances throughout the year including: Classical, Jazz, Bluegrass, R&B, Big Band, Classic Rock, Gospel, Choral, and performance collaborations with:  Morehead State University & University of KY

 

THEATRE:

- Home to “Two Blocks Off Broadway” Community Theatre

- Three - four performances per year

 

START 1 Team (Successfully Tying All Races Together as One):

- Diversity programming for African American and Hispanic Communities

 

START 2 Team:

- Programming for adults ages 21-35

- Open Mic, concerts, coffee houses

 

VISUAL ARTS:

- Arts Center Gallery – hosts an Opening Reception monthly featuring 2-D, 3-D, Contemporary, Traditional, local, regional, state, national and international artists.

- Home to the Gate City Arts Guild and the Gateway Camera Club

- Workshops and classes held for all ages

- Community Built Mosaic Project - all ages are participating in creating this 25 foot long public art mosaic

 

Children and adults alike are drawn to the Gateway Regional Arts Center to enlighten and inspire them to be creative.  Without the arts center many of our population would never experience or be involved in the arts.
