The mission of Laurel House is to:
- Advocate for and empower those impacted by domestic violence by providing crisis intervention, safe haven, supportive programs and resources
- Advance social change through preventative education and through community training and collaboration to foster a coordinated response to domestic abuse
On any given day at Laurel House:
- Counselor Advocates work with women and children living in our shelter to discuss safe options and steps to transition into a life away from their abusers
- Volunteer Advocates answer incoming calls on our hotline
- Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) advocates go to hospital emergency rooms to help domestic violence victims. In addition, our DART advocates work with local police departments to meet with a victim who has just experienced an assault
- Transitional Housing Advocates help women and children to achieve self-sufficiency
- Children’s Advocates assist children and families to move beyond abuse
- Legal Advocates provide court accompaniment
- Community Educators offer a variety of presentations on domestic violence awareness and resources
- Trained counselors facilitate support groups where victims and survivors share their stories
