The fundraising team for the Larchmont Public Library’s “Transforming for Tomorrow” Project has nearly reached its goal of $1.5 million, with more than $1.4 million raised as of November 1st and less than $100,000 to go by year’s end.

“The Board of Trustees thanks the Larchmont/Mamaroneck community for its strong support of this important project,” said Pamela Dubitsky, Board Chair. “We all recognize the tremendous value of our local library, as well as the necessity of keeping the Library up to date in a changing world.  The Transformation will ensure our Library remains a beloved and essential local institution far into the future.”

The main Library building has not been renovated in over 20 years, since the start of the Information Age; the role of libraries has changed and expanded dramatically in that time.  While demand for traditional services remains high at the Larchmont Library, there is an ever-increasing need for new technologies and services.  The Library's interior spaces and facilities must be updated and renewed in order to meet the diverse and changing needs of the community.

Lothrop and Associates, an award-winning architectural firm specializing in libraries, has drawn plans that work with the Library’s existing footprint. The Transformation will re-purpose some rooms, improve flow, and enhance the current space with lighting, furniture and electrical upgrades.  Plans include a state-of-the-art Technology Commons (with many computers, work stations, charging docks, a laptop bar, a business center and an instruction room), a vibrant Young Adult space, tutoring rooms, collaborative and quiet work areas and a self-service cafe.

The fundraising committee has now launched the “Almost There” chapter of the campaign.  The goal is to raise the final $100,000 as soon as possible in order to prepare for the renovation, scheduled to begin January 2016.  Fundraising Chair Angela Eaves said, “We are asking the community to help with the final push. We are so close, and we know this is a project that everyone will be proud to have supported. Please donate to our Library as generously as possible today. Help make the Transformation a reality!”
