The Joseph Legacy Foundation, Inc.

The Joseph Legacy Foundation was born out of a deep-seated belief in the transformative potential of education and music. Inspired by Romel Joseph, a resilient Haitian violinist and educator, and his former wife Sherry, the foundation stands as a beacon of hope in challenging times.

Our mission is to uplift communities, instilling self-reliance and sustainable change in Haiti. We believe in the potential that lies within every child and aims to unlock it through our core values of respect, integrity, compassion, and transparency. Our long-term goals revolve around improving the quality of education in Haiti, fostering a culture of lifelong learning, and creating opportunities for economic growth.

The New Victorian School in Haiti plays a fundamental role in the education and development of children. It was founded by Romel and Sherry Joseph in 1991 during the tumultuous Aristide coup d'etat. Initially, their primary motivation for establishing the school was to provide their daughter, Victoria, with an alternative education. It nurtures well-rounded individuals ready to contribute positively to their communities with a bilingual and performing arts curriculum that balances academic rigor with creative expression.

The Joseph Legacy Foundation works closely with The New Victorian School, providing resources, training, and support to ensure every student receives the best education possible. The local community has warmly welcomed the school, becoming a symbol of hope and progress, serving approximately 200-300 students annually between the ages of 2 and 15.

Despite facing numerous challenges, such as a devastating fire in 2000 and an earthquake a decade later in 2010, the school's unwavering dedication to education has remained unchanged, even in the face of destruction.

Victoria now serves as the school's executive director with the support of her mother, Sherry, and brother, Bradley, demonstrating her commitment to its mission while honoring the enduring legacy of their family.
