Iron Horse Therapy is an award-winning therapeutic equine center in Milton, GA dedicated to empowering children and adults with special needs and disabilities through equine-assisted activities, one ride at a time.

Our vision is to build relationships between people, horses, families, and communities. Here at Iron Horse Therapy, the horse becomes a partner and therapeutic tool in achieving a variety of goals that are cognitive, physical, social, educational and behavioral.

Serving those with Physical, Cognitive and Emotional Disabilities

We offer therapeutic horseback riding, by PATH Intl. Certified Instructors, for children and adults with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. Riders may also enjoy our Special Olympics program, horse shows, special events, and camps.

Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program

Iron Horse Therapy’s therapeutic riding program is a year-round program where participants with special needs, from the age of 3 through adults, get to work on their horsemanship skills.

Lessons are customized to the skills of each rider and instructors use different types of activities and resources within the lesson to accommodate a participant’s abilities.  Participants are assigned to a weekly or bi-month lesson led by a PATH International Certified Instructor. Lessons can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour and can be private or semi-private.   Riders in semi-private lessons receive the added benefit of social interaction with another rider of similar age.

Adaptive Riding participants maybe are assisted with a side walker on the side of the horse, along with the instructor, both provide support during the lesson.

Special Olympics Equestrian Program

The Iron Horse Special Olympics team consists of riders with intellectual disabilities such as autism.  Riders train all year for the 3-day Georgia Special Olympics Equestrian Games in the fall in categories including Dressage, English Equestrian, Showmanship, and Working Trail.

Disability Does Not Mean Inability

Governor Deal and Governor Kemp have honored Iron Horse Therapy’s Special Olympics team several times.  Many of our special needs riders on the team have been recognized as Top Equestrian Athletes in the state of Georgia during ceremonies at the State Capital in Atlanta.
