Breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty through education
On any given day in Colorado, there are approximately 2,000 high school students experiencing homelessness. Many of these students experiencing adversity have dreams of attending college or vocational school but lack the means to do so. By supporting Hide in Plain Sight you can help give them a hand up and change the course of their lives by giving the gift of education. We are committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty one student at a time.
Homeless and impoverished students need a hand up, not a hand out
Hide In Plain Sight serves as a springboard to post high school education for homeless and impoverished students by providing scholarships to reduce the barriers in order for them to attend college or vocational school. These scholarships help cover the cost of tuition and of basic need insecurities including food, housing, transportation and childcare. We partner with businesses, local schools and community organizations to make possibilities a reality for these students.
Breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty begins with each student
Although homeless and impoverished students initially find themselves in circumstances beyond their control, their potential for future successes lies largely in education to allow them to be self-sufficient, confident and hopeful for a bright future.
Students have a vested interest in their future success
Interested students complete an application and in-person interview. Once approved, they are awarded a scholarship based on need, and are encouraged to participate in career related activities, and maintain academic success.
HIPS plays an active role with each student
HIPS team members stay in touch with each student through the course of their schooling until they achieve their degree or certification.
Partnerships with local schools allow for greater success
HIPS is closely aligned with six local community colleges and vocational schools. These partnerships allow us to identify homeless students, and ensure the greatest success based on their unique needs.
Hide In Plain Sight Overview
- Our mission is to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty through post-secondary education.
- Our scholars receive on average $5,000 per school year per scholar.
- The scholarship is used to remove the barriers and stressors like food and housing insecurities, child care costs, transportation issues, computer and printer needs, and general living expenses.
- Our goal for each scholar is to help them achieve a certificate or degree, become competitive in the job market, join the workforce and earn a living/sustainable wage which lifts them up out of homelessness or poverty.
