Heartland Animal Rescue Team

Heartland Animal Rescue Team was founded in 1987 by a group of concerned citizens in the Brainerd Lakes area.  The stray, abandonned and neglected animals of the area were not being taken care of at this time.  HART started out as an all volunteer organization and operated from 1987 to 1992 with volunteers and a budget of under $1,000.  In 1992 a shelter was purchased as like the say the rest is history.

Today HART employs a staff of thirteen, operates on an annual budget of $400,000 and adopts out about 1,200 animals annually.

HART has a very extensive education program targeting all ages.
