Hawaii Youth Maritime Programs Inc

Who

Hawaii Youth Maritime Programs, Inc. utilizes the "Sea Scouts, BSA" curriculum and is the parent organization for Kauai’s Sea Scout programs. We provide, maintain and insure the vessels used in the program and hold an official “Sea Scouts, BSA” charter through Aloha Council for all of our units.

What

Hawaii Youth Maritime Programs, Inc. uses boating and adventure to teach not only seamanship skills, but also provide character development, life skills and vocational training to both male and female middle school and high school youth.

 Why

Our programs provide youth with a positive activity. The lessons and skills learned in the program will last them a lifetime.

When

The program runs year round, with youth participating in cruises, training, rank advancement, competition and community service throughout the year.

Our Units

Currently, Hawaii Youth Maritime Programs is the sponsor of 2 Sea Scout units:

Ship 11, "Decisive", homeported on Kauai,

Ship 12, "Kia'iokekai" homeported on West Kauai.

Midshipman Program- our Midshipman program is a "juniors" program open to 7th and 8th graders, so they can get started with boating before joining one of our Sea Scout units.

Hawaii Youth Maritime Regatta-  Sponsored by Hawaii Youth Maritime Programs, the "Hawaii Youth Maritime Regatta" is an annual event held in spring. Youth from our 2 Sea Scout units, Midshipman Program, and other youth boating groups compete in more than 20 nautical events over the course of 2 days.
Events include: Knot tying, ring buoy, boatswain's chair, Compass and Relative bearing, semaphore, International Code Flags, sailing, and more.

How grants, donations and gifts impact the program

Your gift greatly improves our ability to deliver this dynamic program to the youth of Hawaii.    Our organization is completely volunteer run and 100% of all funds go directly to support the program.
