"Serving those committed to serve others."

On October 12, 1997, Atlanta police officer John R. Sowa was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call. At that time, a small number of service-minded individuals pulled together to aid the Sowa family, and from that act, the inspiration for creating the Gold Shield Foundation of Metro Atlanta was formed.

Today, our mission is to provide care and assistance to police, firefighters, and the families of those seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. The Foundation is a Non-Profit / 501(c)(3) organization.
