According to the groundbreaking study, the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, or ACE
Study, conducted by Kaiser Permanente and the Center for Disease Control in in the 1990s,
experiencing adverse events in childhood is the leading cause of adult onset chronic medical
and mental health conditions, including heart disease, obesity, substance abuse, diabetes, and
suicidality, among many other conditions. GPTICN is the leading privately funded, bipartisan
organization in the Piedmont region focusing on mitigating the impact of trauma and chronic
stress on families through resilience building initiatives. We do this through the tireless work of
our advocates, trainers, and community partners. Our efforts focus on building resilient
communities and improving outcomes for all families.

More About Us

GPTICN has accomplished the following:
Trained various community partners, including employees of the
Culpeper Free Clinic, Orange Head Start, Culpeper County Board of
Supervisors and School Board, and Combined Neighborhood Watch
program; brought screenings of Paper Tigers and Resilience to the Piedmont
region, facilitated multidisciplinary panel discussions and community
conversations about trauma impact; initiated and organized the Strong and Healthy initiative, supplying
hygiene products to local middle and high schools for free access to students. Currently, GPTICN is has completed two 4 week programs, Strong and Healthy Families, that targets families/students of Sycamore Park Elementary School. The program teaches participants age appropriate tools for communication and emotional regulation. A third four week session is scheduled to start on March 27.
