Who We Are

L!FE Leaders is a youth-centered organization, empowering Detroit’s young people, ages 14 to 24, to create the future they envision for themselves and their communities. L!FE student-internships provide experience-based career and life skills training that fosters self-confidence, professional networks, and workforce preparedness for youth participants. Students receive relevant work experience and explore topics of financial literacy, college and career readiness, health and wellness, relationship building, community engagement, and more. L!FE’s programs require students to apply the skills and knowledge they are developing to real-world opportunities to effectuate positive change in their communities and forge postsecondary academic and career pathways to fulfilling lives and financial independence.

About L!FE 

L!FE Leaders Inc. was founded in 2018 with a mission to empower youth to empower their future and the future of Detroit. Co-founders, Amy Nederlander and Michaela Murphy, envisioned a flourishing Detroit where we invest in our youth by offering them paid student-internships and community events that foster the next generation of Detroit professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. Our founders’ vision has advanced through two youth development programs, Excellence Corps and Youth Summit, and the Annual Detroit Youth Summit Conference. 

Excellence Corps and Youth Summit are career development, life skills, and workforce readiness programs that prepare students for post-secondary success that leads to socio-economic mobility and financial independence. Each August, L!FE Excellence Corps and Youth Summit students and staff plan, host, and lead the annual Detroit Youth Summit Conference (DYSC). DYSC welcomes over 200 Detroit Youth and Leaders each year to network and learn about Detroit's growth and resulting opportunities.
