Friends of the Team Program is our non-profit to support the Team Program at Tamiscal High School. Team is a unique experiential Ed program offered to juniors in the Tamalpais Union High School district. It is a free, public program for juniors to prepare for life through core academics, outdoor learning experiences, community service, internships and a close knit community of 24 fellow students and 2 teachers. Team is offered through the district , but the only thing the district pays for is teacher salaries. Our backpacking trips, our vans, our day to day experiental type of lifestyle does cost money and this is where you come in! We believe this is one of the most incredible programs offered to high schoolers in the country and we need your help to keep it going!
How can your donations help support our program:
Team will offer three wilderness expeditions during the 2019-2020 school year: an eleven day backpack trip in the Sierra in September, a backpacking and rock climbing trip in Joshua Tree National Park in April, and a service and backpacking trip to Humboldt County’s Lost Coast in June. The Joshua Tree and Lost Coast trips are contingent on successful fundraising during the school year.
In addition to the backpacking trips, Team students will spend eleven days exploring Marin's open space and
wilderness areas, approximately one outing each month.
Team's wilderness trips are the central experience of the program and are where the students come together as a group. Even though we spend only about 40 of the 183 days in the school calendar out on the trail, our wilderness trips are the heart and soul of Team and the defining aspect of our program
. One of the goals of Team’s wilderness component is for Team students to gain the necessary competence to run wilderness trips on their own. To that end, our students actively participate in the planning of our trips, including fundraising, food selection, purchase, and repackaging, and equipment maintenance. Out on the trail, Team trips are group efforts: students share the load, clean up after themselves, and help one another out.
We need to raise funds in order to: Rent vans, pay additional wilderness trip leaders, get food and gear for trips, get permits and campgrounds, etc. Your contribution can go a long way in maintaining the magic of our program and helping students continue to explore themselves and the outdoors for years to come!
