Meet Kaiya

Kaiya Armstrong, a 21-year-old who lost her sight unexpectedly at 14, has done something incredible. She flew a plane from Phoenix, Arizona to Washington D.C. without using her vision. Kaiya's story has inspired people all over the world, and she even made it to the front page of the Washington Post.

Just a few years ago, Kaiya found her life really challenging. She struggled with her vision loss and barely passed high school. Simple tasks were almost impossible without help. Kaiya participated in FBC's College Prep program in the summer of 2021 and entered the Adult Comprehensive Program later that fall. Kaiya enrolled in community college in 2022 and is pursuing her a degree in criminal justice and plans to attend law school. In October, a group of 8 of Kaiya's peers ventured to Washington DC to support her as she landed from her cross-country flight. Through FBC's Trailblazers program, Kaiya's peers participated in a week of advocacy, leadership, and orientation and mobility. Now, Kaiya describes her life as limitless!!

What's most impressive about Kaiya is her joyful spirit. No matter the obstacle, she always has a smile on her face. Her incredible achievement shows that anything is possible with determination and support. Kaiya's story is a reminder to us all that we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.
