Celebrating 50 years serving the Long Beach community, For The Child holds a unique position in the field of child abuse prevention and trauma recovery.

Your gift provides healing mental health care and compassionate support that the most vulnerable and seriously abused children in our community need to recover.

No child is turned away because they do not have insurance or the ability to pay!

Specialized therapy for trauma recovery is just one part of how you help us wrap our arms around children in need. Children need advocacy, safe homes and families, and experiences that build coping skills, resilience, and hope for the future. All of our programs are designed with these needs in mind.

The stories of the children and teens who come to us are hard to hear. Many have been physically or sexually abused, have experienced serious neglect, or have witnessed domestic violence or family homicides. Some have been trafficked or recovered from abductions. Some have their own mental health challenges or come from homes where a parent has mental health or substance abuse problems.

Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to $30,000.00  by Pacific Premier Bank, our generous corporate partner.

Exciting News!  With your help, we are expanding our Child Abuse Program at 4565 California Avenue Long Beach and adding a wing dedicated to the needs of teenagers!

The John Gogian Teen & Family Center is under construction and will open in early 2025!

Traditionally FTC referrals were 70% young children and 30% teens; today young teens are half of those coming to us for help.

We are seeing dramatic increases in teens experiencing cyberbullying, sexual exploitation, and sexual assault from abusive relationships and predators manipulating and connecting with them using social media platforms.

Teen anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors have increased over the past decade with the growing social media world and as pandemic fallout because of interruptions in academic and social development.

In 2021, the U.S. Surgeon General released an Advisory pointing to an “alarming increases in the prevalence of certain mental health challenges” among youth, which matches what FTC is experiencing.

For The Child is proud of our well developed programs for Early Childhood Mental health and intervention with the youngest abuse and violence victims, birth to 12 years old.  We are keeping that core strength while expanding teen-specific programs and services, new prevention strategies for social media exploitation, and greater support for parents of young teens.
