Transparency USA

Who is Transparency USA, and more specifically, Transparency Texas? The short version: we are data fanatics who care about political transparency. We pour into our work at Transparency USA because we want to help voters better understand elections and the political system, and how it’s all tied together.

We started in Texas and focus much of our time on providing information and clarity about the money in Texas politics.

Candidates and PACs in every state are required to submit to their state agency detailed and public records of the money they are raising and spending. Once the data has been filed, we make it easy for YOU to understand. State agency websites are clunky and hard to navigate. We convert the raw data from each state into a user-friendly format.

If you want to see what is driving a politician, you need to follow the money. The groups and donors supporting a candidate with large donations often have an inside track to that candidate’s policies and votes. We think taxpayers and voters should be able to easily understand the dollars propping up their elected officials. When you understand where the money is coming from, you better understand politicians.
