Dr. Sonny Lara Founder of Firehouse, who himself was an at risk youth, in and out of Juvenile Hall and prison. Has spent the past 30 years giving back to youth in Santa Clara County. Using his past to encourage, build and change young mindsets. He is passionate about instilling new thought patterns, exposing youth to new experiences and empowering them to take charge of their future.  

 

Jose Marquez is an outreach worker for the Firehouse. Since the age of 19 he has been an active member of the community giving back to at risk youth.  Once a troubled youth himself and involved in gang activity,  raised in one of San Jose's "Hot Spots" as identified by San Jose Police Department as a gang affiliated neighborhood.         

Jose met Pastor Sonny in 1993 and after years of intervention and mentoring he has become a prime example of what true mentoring looks like.  After living in the hood for 21 years in a two bedroom apartment with his parents and siblings. Working as an outreach specialist, Jose was able to purchase a house and move his entire family into a 4 bedroom 2 bath home. Jose is married and has two children, who are involved in sports and cheer, education is a primary focus for them.

Jose has invested countless hours to youth in Santa Clara County, giving back what was given to him, Love, encouragement and hope.
