Family Promise of Escambia County, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

Here at the end of 2021, we hoped to report that 30+ families had received shelter and support through Family Promise of Escambia County, Inc., this year.  The challenges our community has faced slowed the usual 2-3 year process for establishing operations, but we feel confident 2022 will be the year this becomes a tangible program you can visit.  But we need your help NOW!

We have been given a $10,000 end-of-year challenge. This $20,000 is approximately ¼ the expenses involved in funding our Executive Director for a year (look for job postings soon! This figure is salary+benefits+supports).

Our “We” needs to include YOU!  Here are ways you can help:

  • A generous donation by January 1!
  • Consider sustaining donations that can help sustain a budget month-to-month.
  • Volunteer!  Contact us at familypromiseEC@gmail.com if you would like the opportunity to find purpose and meaning through this badly needed program that allows homeless kids and their families to find stable housing and stable lives.
  • Donate supplies – check our website, http://www.familypromiseofescambia.org
  • Tell others!  Do your family members, friends, colleagues at work or in your civic club or congregation know about this program and our local unmet needs?
  • Advocate for development of more affordable housing opportunities and for landlords to accept HUD housing vouchers (there is a long, long wait list of folks with funds but no place to stay).

 Remember:

  • There are more than 4000 children in our county who experience homelessness each year.  Half are under school age.  The need for shelter for families is the #1 priority listed by Opening Doors NWF now.  There are only spaces for 4 families that include a dad in our county (Loaves and Fishes).  There are limited spaces for women and children (but growing, thank goodness!).
  • Family Promise HAS a strong track record elsewhere – 35+ years, 43 states, over 200 communities, including counties adjoining us. FP provides tremendous management support to local affiliates.  Nationally, even with COVID, 81% of guests found stable housing in an average of 63 days (not likely here with our lack of affordable housing).  http://www.familypromise.org.
