In 1989, Laura Evans ended her seventh week in isolation following a bone marrow transplant to fight Stage III breast cancer. She visualized forming a team of breast cancer survivors and others to climb a significant mountain in order to raise awareness and money in the fight against breast cancer, and to be a visible tribute to the courage of breast cancer survivors everywhere.

From this idea came a plan to climb Argentina’s Mt. Aconcagua, which at 22,841 feet, is the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. In January 1995, Laura Evans and Peter Whittaker, a premier international mountain guide, led a team of seventeen breast cancer survivors to the top of Mt. Aconcagua, raising awareness, research funds and a hope for the breast cancer cause.

Over the years, Expedition Inspiration has raised substantial funds, and working closely with major research hospitals and universities, has made donations to important projects in research, prevention and community education.

Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research is a charitable non-profit foundation dedicated to the eradication of breast cancer. We appreciate your support and donations to assist us so that we can continue to fund our Young Investigator Award grants and host our biennial Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium in Sun Valley, Idaho.
