Exhale an After-Abortion Counseling Talkline

A nonprofit organization

Based in Oakland, California, Exhale was created by and for women who have abortions in direct response to the harmful effects of abortion stigma on women’s health and the lack of non-judgmental after-abortion services.

The mission of Exhale is to create a social climate where each person's unique experience with abortion is respected, supported and free from stigma. We provide services, training and education to empower individuals, families and communities to achieve post-abortion health and well-being.

Exhale operates a free, multi-lingual, national after-abortion talkline, staffed entirely by trained volunteers.

Our public engagement strategies include media and communications, strategic partnerships, thought-leadership, and developing new spokespeople for Exhale and the Pro-Voice Movement. We have partnered with MTV and the Center for Digital Storytelling, and been featured in The New York Times, Glamour, Ladies Home Journal, Newsweek, on NPR’s “Talk of the Nation” and CNN’s Headline News, among others.
