El Rio Community Health Center was founded in 1970 to provide high quality, comprehensive health care for underinsured and uninsured people in Tucson. The mission of El Rio is "Improving the health of our community through comprehensive, accessible, affordable, quality and compassionate care." El Rio Health Center Foundation began in 2001 with a mission of building community involvement in the health center. El Rio is the largest provider in Pima County of medical and dental services to the uninsured and Medicaid populations, employing over 800 staff who serve 76,000 patients (over 30,000 children) at our 17 locations. Over 60% of our patients live below the Federal Poverty Level. El Rio has grown to be one of the largest (14th) and most highly regarded community health centers in the country with approximately 1,200 medical/dental visits per day.
