Putnam Clubhouse, Contra Costa Clubhouses Inc

A nonprofit organization

Each year, more than 10,000 Contra Costa County residents are hospitalized due to serious mental illness. They experience disruption to every aspect of their lives including housing, education, work, hobbies and relationships.

Adults recovering from mental illness deserve to participate in society in meaningful and productive ways. As a result, The Contra Costa Clubhouses, Inc. created Putnam Clubhouse in 2008. Putnam Clubhouse provides opportunities to regain respect, hope and access to the same world of employment, education, housing and friendship as the rest of the community.

Services are free, voluntary and lifelong.

Putnam Clubhouse provides a safe, accepting place to spend the day working side by side with peers and staff. Participants (identified as members, rather than as patients or clients) share responsibility for Putnam Clubhouse’s success. During the Work-Ordered Day, members build on individual strengths, talents and abilities, rather than focusing on illness. Members run all aspects of the program – from clerical to cooking, governance to fundraising as well as visiting members in their homes to provide reach-out, support and friendship.

In addition to finding purpose through work, members have access to career development, school & work support, opportunities to socialize, wellness programs, expressive arts activities, outings and a variety of resources.

We believe that every member can recover and lead a meaningful, productive life.
