With 1,800 acres comes an enormous responsibility not only to preserve the land but to care for and restore it. Our team is dedicated to nurturing biodiversity and providing a sanctuary where people connect with nature.
This work ensures healthy habitat for wildlife and unmatched nature experiences for the community.
We're fiercely focused on restoration. Why?
Proof of Our Success
In spring 2020, something exciting happened. Along the winding banks of O’Bannon Creek at Long Branch Farm & Trails, a few members reported seeing large nests atop a giant sycamore tree. They counted four massive bundles of sticks, each one topped with a striking great blue heron. We had a heron rookery!
This was special because a colony of nests is something rare, something to celebrate. It’s a sure sign that O’Bannon Creek’s waters are clean and productive, providing thousands of fish and other food resources the herons need to raise their young.
As word spread, thousands of visitors came to enjoy the sight, watching the chicks grow and fledge. For the past three springs, the herons have returned, and the rookery has more than tripled to 14 nests!
A Future for All of Us
With best land management practices, we are making a difference for our environment, community, and—most importantly—for the next generation.
We're a private nonprofit. Unlike other cultural centers and parks, the Nature Center is not supported by your tax dollars. Donations from individuals like you are crucial to grow our conservation impact.
