$5,000 Goal

The Chipley Historical Center started in 1985 by a group of dedicated volunteers to preserve the history of the Pine Mountain area.  The Center is located in the original City Hall, which was constructed in the early 1900s.  The City Hall, with its two jail cells, was saved from deterioration, renovated and placed on the National Register of Historical Places.  Over the past three years we have raised over $300,000 through individual donations and special events to double the size of the archival research and museum spaces.  The construction started in January of this year and we are projecting opening the new museum in the Spring of 2021.

We need your help to finish our new exhibition area and to refurbish our current space.  The original area has just been painted but we need to add new lights, a flat concrete floor, upgrade our exhibit cases, put UV filters on the windows and create new text panels and labels.

In our new and renovated spaces we will be dividing the exhibition into subject areas to include:

  • Prehistory
  • Kings Gap and Old Hood
  • Agriculture
  • The CCC
  • Callaway Gardens
  • FDR Park
  • Tourism
  • Industry
  • Businesses
  • Railroads
  • Government
  • Legal System
  • Wars
  • School
  • Clubs and Organizations
  • Home Life
  • Religion
  • and, of course, Changing Exhibitions

Any help you can give us would be very appreciated.  Chipley and the Pine Mountain area have an exciting history including Presidents, commerce, trains, prehistoric settlements and adventures, all of which impact our present and future.
