The Howard W Blake School of the Arts theater program needs your support. 

As a magnet school, Howard W. Blake School of the Arts provides a home for the non-traditional student. Our students are imaginative, passionate, collaborative, out-of-the-box thinkers. Our focus on the arts allows students to achieve and thrive in all areas due to their unique training in creative problem solving and cooperative work.

Blake Theater produces four state-of-the-art productions every year in addition to a one-act play or musical, coffee house open mic nights, a lip-sync challenge performance, numerous workshops and participation in several theatre festivals and competitions. 

Each of our productions is financed entirely through the support of our families, individual patrons, local businesses, and community members like you. It takes hundreds of hours of planning, building, and rehearsing during and after school hours to make this program the success it is. In addition, it takes money. 

 We are the premier performing arts high school in the Tampa Bay region, and the only one in Hillsborough county with a pre-professional arts program. Students in the Theater program receive first class instruction in one of three areas – performance, technical theater, or costume design. The work produced by these students rivals that of many of the professional theaters in the area.

Among Blake Theater’s many achievements are:

• Voted Best Drama Program in the Tampa Bay Area 2017 (Creative Loafing Readers’ Poll).
• Our production of Side Show was selected to represent the best work in the State at the Florida State Thespian Festival in March. Garnering the coveted Friday night performance slot at Morsani Hall.
• Side Show received nine Broadway Star of the Future nominations including Outstanding Musical (BSOTF is sponsored by the Straz Center with final winners announced in May 2018).
• Our one-act version of Urinetown was one of only four productions (out of 26) in the district selected to represent Hillsborough County at the state one-act festival.
• More Superior rated performances, more Critics’ Choice Alternates, and more Critics’ Choice selections at the District 9 Thespian Festival than any other High School in Hillsborough County.
