Bald Head Island Conservancy Inc

A nonprofit organization

While most of our work is carried out on Bald Head Island, the results of our scientific research and conservation efforts have the potential to help barrier islands and coastal communities throughout the world.

The BHI Conservancy protects and sustains Bald Head Island through numerous conservation projects.  From creek, dune, and fresh water aquifer monitoring to invasive species removal to nesting shorebird protection and non-lethal deer management, the BHI Conservancy keeps busy.

But alas, we are most well known for our Sea Turtle Protection Program.  For over 30 years, volunteers and staff of the STPP have monitored the shores of Bald Head for nesting and hatching sea turtles.  Bald Head Island is nationally recognized for its sea turtle nesting activity.  Our Sea Turtle Protection Program is not funded by the Federal Government.  It is not funded by the NC Government.  It is not funded by any regional governments.  It is funded by the BHI Community.

In order to keep our nightly beach patrols for sea turtles efficient we use ATVs.  Unfortunatly, sand and salt water do a number on these vehicles which in turn means we must purchase new ones every few years.

Having heard about succesful Crowd Funding projects, we thought we might give it a try! We aren't asking for anyone to pay the needed $12,000 by themselves, we are just asking for anyone who feels they can give to donate whatever amount they can!

Thank you!
