Two programs of the Alabama Writers’ Forum are making the world a better place, one young life at a time. We’ve proven we make a difference in the world over our 20-year history. The Forum supports literary arts programs in Alabama and needs your help supporting two of these proven programs that impact young people.Harper Lee, Winston Groom, Sonia Sanchez, and many other writers have placed Alabama firmly on the world’s literary map. The AWF keeps the literary community connected through its programs and services, but we need to raise $20,000 to continue through the end of 2016 with these model programs that are proven among the best in the nation..Will you please donate what you can?

Writing Our Stories, a creative writing program developed for adjudicated youth, takes place year-round at the Alabama Department of Youth Services (DYS) on two DYS campuses. Award-winning teaching writers instruct these young people in creative writing craft. Young writers' works are then published in anthologies each year as the culmination of this thriving juvenile justice and the literary arts partnership. Writing Our Stories was launched in 2011 in traditional public schools through a partnership with the Shelby County Arts Council.  There is nothing like this great program that can become a model nationwide to help these students learn to communicate, to place value on their own lives, and to become productive in society. Writing Our Stories can save lives and make our world better. It works. We are doing it now. And we would like your partnership as a supporter of the program. Please consider a donation now.

We also encourage all students to explore creative writing as an arts discipline as well as a career path in high schools across the state. The annual High School Literary Arts Awards recognizes students and their teachers for writing excellence and promise.

Join us today with your donation to make these programs thrive. We also serve writers, publishers, teachers, and others with information, news and ideas through the Forum’s interactive web site: www.writersforum.org. Donors to the Forum receive our digital newsletter and frequent updates about literary events, as well as recognition for all levels from $100 and up.  We serve our state's literary community 24/7, promoting Alabama writers throughout the country and beyond. Please be a part of this thriving literary community with your generous donation today.
