We exist because Black/African American women have the highest breast cancer death rates of all US populations.

We exist to educate and provide peer support to Black women, men, families, and communities in the struggle and survivorship of breast cancer.

The African American Breast Cancer Alliance, Inc. (AABCA) provides advocacy, education, and support to black women, men and communities in the detection, treatment and survivorship of breast cancer. 

The AABCA is dedicated to providing a supportive and nurturing environment in which women, their families and supporters are empowered with the knowledge and available resources that will enable them to make informed and educated decisions concerning their breast health care options.

We provide culturally specific information about breast cancer and peer led support groups for black women diagnosed with breast cancer.  Our award winning materials open the door to important conversations about breast cancer, early detection, early treatment, empowerment and survivorship.  The goals of the AABCA are to:

• Alleviate the fear and devastation often by those newly diagnosed with breast cancer through education and up-to-date information about treatment and care.
•  Help breast cancer survivors identify the clinical resources and facilities that will best meet their particular needs.
•  Facilitate and support an open dialogue among breast cancer survivors and their families regarding the emotional and physical after-effects of receiving a breast cancer diagnosis; the possible side effects of currently available medical treatments; and how to cope with the emotional and physical challenges that they may face while on their journey to recover.
•  Increase community knowledge and awareness about the early detection and treatment of breast cancer with regular mammograms, clinical breast and self breast examinations.
•  Encourage both women and men to take a proactive role in the early detection of breast cancer in order to start immediate treatments to help increase better outcomes and survivorship.
•  Work with local, state and national cancer information agencies to develop strategies to address the needs of underserved communities that experience ongoing health disparities.
