About

The 100 Black Men Milledgeville/Oconee, Inc. is a Non-Profit Organization whose primary function is to mentor young African American males. Our goal is to develop social and economic skills in such a way that our mentees realize their potential to be successful and significant.

By stressing the importance of obtaining and applying education, and providing tools that empower, our youth are more able to forge ahead toward self-sufficiency, cultivated civic interaction, and business leadership.

As a registered chapter of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc., we understand that not all youth are born with privilege, opportunities, or a supportive network. Many are raised within family situations and environments where the belief that what they want in life – something better than this – is unattainable. Oftentimes the desire and hope of becoming who they truly are and living out their purpose is muted, pressed down until almost invisible.

However, to counter this disillusionment, the 100 Black Men Milledgeville/Oconee, and 100 members all around the world, are committed to developing our communities into places where everyone, in particular, African American youth, believe in their ability to succeed within societal norms. We strive to work together to assist our young men to create a future in which they can be proud to be a family, raise a family, and build a legacy.

The Four Pillars

Education

Mentoring and tutoring is available for middle school and high school students.

In addition, the 100 Black Men of Milledgeville-Oconee, Inc. together with area colleges, and technical schools will sponsor a College Fair for Perspective College Bound high school students. The purpose of our annual college events is to acquaint high school juniors and seniors with representatives from local colleges with whom they can contact for information and guidance related to course choices available and resources for financial assistance.

Financial literacy seminars are presented biannually, information from which can address ways to meet the costs of attending tech school, college, or university.

Health and Wellness

The 100 Black Men of Milledgeville-Oconee, Inc. believe that the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing of African Americans is vitally important in order for the community to thrive and grow.

The 100 Black Men proactively encourages the involvement of all citizens in existing programs aimed at strengthening the community and its citizens through assessment of their current health status. Advocating for these programs has become a focal point of the 100 Black Men as we partner with non-profit organizations and private firms that offer free or low cost services (screenings, workshops, seminars, lectures) to the community.

Additionally, the 100 Black Men are developing programs to foster dialog between law enforcement agencies and community residents with a goal of correlating communication between the two groups with helping to reduce crime and violence and community safety.

Mentoring

The Goal of the 100 Black Men of Milledgeville-Oconee Area is to establish a list of young African American males to mentor throughout each year. Using a holistic approach to training, learning, and developing social and economic life skills, our focus is to encourage positive change toward successful citizenship and leadership.

Members of the 100 Black Men will donate a minimum of one hour per week to make the program a success.

Economic Development

The 100 Black Men of Milledgeville-Oconee Area will team up with the community resource managers, local, and national bank programs to teach African Americans in our community money management skills. Our target group is African American males ages 12-21.

Financial literacy seminars are presented twice a year.
