Help us preserve the history of furniture, decorative arts and interior design. Support the Library’s program to restore important volumes of historical significance in the general collection and climate controlled rare book room.
Rare books in the collection are waiting for donations to send them to ECS Conservation, the NC-based leader in book conservation and restoration services. Rebinding cost per volume ranges from $750 to $1,800.
With more than 5,000 furniture and design specific volumes, The Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library is the largest furniture specialty library in the world. The rare book collection contains volumes published since 1543 and includes a collection of the original works of 18th century furniture masters Chippendale, Sheraton and Hepplewhite, as well as a complete 26 volume set of Diderot's Encyclopedia published in 1776.
Donors who give $750 or more to this effort are acknowledged with a label that reads, "Restoration & Binding Made Possible Through The Generosity Of..."
