We are a Hagerstown based professional opera company that held our first performances in September 2010, performing G.F. Handel's Ariodante at Hagerstown Community College's Kepler Theater. Following that production, we presented a fully staged and costumed production of Mozart's Cosi fan tutti. In October 2011 we gave a staged performance of Donizetti's Lucia de Lammermoor; later that same month we presented a concert of arias and song to the Washington Arts Club in Washington, DC. We followed that with our first production with full orchestra (employing several musicians from the Maryland Symphony Orchestra), in May/June 2012, performing Bizet's CarmenCarmen also gave us the opportunity for twelve Barbara Ingram School for the Arts (BISFA) students to sing in our chorus. In cooperation with the Washington County Board of Education in the fall of 2012, we brought 411 fourth & fifth graders from Title I schools to a free performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute, as seen in this story by WHAG. This was partially funded by a Kickstarter campaign initiated by the opera company which raised $3,700.00. We had three other successful performances of Flute which brought over 300 patrons to the opera -- many traveling from the Baltimore and D.C. metro areas. Our next performance, Mozart's Don Giovanni, will be presented between May 24 and June 1, 2013. This will be our largest production to date, with a chorus of thirty-two (mostly again BISFA students) and an eighteen-piece orchestra.
