The Berea Urban Farm is located on a 1.4-acre lot in Old Town Berea, Kentucky.
Our mission is to produce high-quality food for residents and visitors in a manner that:
-restores the land
-educates youth and adults
-provides a neighborhood gathering place
-increases food security
-promotes local economic development
-improves the health and quality of life of the community
In the past two years, we have removed dilapidated buildings, begun rejuvinating the soil, hosted production workshops, donated 370 pounds of produce to neighborhood households and the local food bank, taught a weekly elementary school after school program, and installed key infrastructure such as a tool shed, high tunnel, and water lines.
In 2016, we plan to
-expand our apiary
-plant 250-feet of pollinator friendly plants
-provide community garden plots
-pilot a prescription veggie program
-run weekly production workshops
-raise seedlings for sale
-expand our horticulture production
-donate 10% of our produce to the food bank
The Berea Urban Farm focuses on food production, education, and building community.
