Sadie came to HSSJC as a stray in mid-April. During her intake exam, it was noted that she had an abnormal vulva. Sadie was examined more thoroughly at the time of spay surgery and it was determined that she has multiple congenital abnormalities affecting the vulva and her caudal abdomen. The abnormalities indicate that Sadie has both female and male sex characteristics, either caused by exposure to testosterone in utero or by random chance.

Unfortunately, one of Sadie’s abnormalities is hypospadias – where the opening of the urethra is not in the right place. Sadie has an abnormal urethral opening in her caudal abdomen that leaks urine beyond her control. Urinary incontinence of this nature predisposes Sadie to urinary tract infections and makes her a very difficult candidate for placement in a home. Sadie’s abnormalities will require surgical repair by a board-certified veterinary specialist in soft tissue surgery.

HSSJC is working on getting her a consultation appointment through Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. We’ve been told the cost for Sadie’s advanced imagine and surgery could be from $3,000-$6,000, depending on the full extent of surgery required.

Without this surgery, Sadie will not be a candidate for adoption. Will you help us reach our goal of raising the funds for her surgery so we can find her a home?
