Critical Exposure is a D.C.-based nonprofit that teaches youth how to use photography and the power of their own voices as tools for school reform and social change. Since its founding in 2004, Critical Exposure has worked with over 1,400 students in helping to secure more than $500 million in funds for school improvements. Critical Exposure follows a three-pronged mission that facilitates: youth empowerment, public engagement and policy change. We partner with schools and youth programs to provide students with lessons on basic photography techniques; provide safe spaces for honest discussions about their communities and the changes they wish to make; and encourage youth to use photography, writing, and public speaking to make this change a success.
