Through working for the September 11th Families' Association, I've known of the good work of Concerns of Police Survivors for years.
Recently I made the discovery that in the history of the COPS Walk, no one has ever walked in honour of the police officers murdered during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. This omission appalled me, so I decided to rectify it by walking myself.
I was privileged to meet many members of the NYPD and PAPD when I made coffee for them for eight months at the World Trade Center site during the recovery operation. Seeing their courage, dedication and sacrifice made me understand a little bit about how special the people we lost on the 11th were.
So I am walking to pay a small tribute to the law enforcement officers killed on the 11th and to help COPS support the families and co-workers of all the brave men and women who have been killed in the line of duty.
